When to Visit?
The Kisite Mpunguti Marine Reserve is open year-round. While the crystal-clear waters offer excellent snorkeling year-round, the best time to visit is between August and March, when the weather is calm. Avoid the rough seas between April and July, which are caused by the southeast monsoon winds. We recommend starting your visit early, around 08:00, to make the most of your day.
Located just 40 km from Ukunda in the Msambeni District, the reserve spans four small islands surrounded by vibrant coral reefs. Kisite Island is covered in lush grasslands, while Mpunguti Island boasts dense coastal forests. This marine paradise is a haven for dolphins, coral gardens, and a variety of bird species.
