The Dhows – Nawalilkher and Babulkher
The Tamarind Dhow Cruise is hosted on two authentic ocean-going dhows, Nawalilkher and Babulkher. These traditional Jahazis were originally used for cargo trading along the East African coast and to the Arab states. They’ve since been meticulously refurbished to preserve their historical charm while offering a unique dining setting. Both dhows are now moored at the Tamarind Jetty in Mombasa.
- Nawalilkher: With a capacity for 70 guests for dinner and 100 guests for cocktail parties, Nawalilkher is the larger of the two dhows. It offers ample space for both intimate dining and lively dance parties during evening cruises.
- Babulkher: More intimate, Babulkher accommodates 55 guests for dinner and 70 guests for cocktails, making it an ideal choice for smaller gatherings or exclusive hire.
The Lunchtime Cruise
Available every day except Sundays, the Lunchtime Dhow Cruise departs from the Tamarind Jetty at 1:00 PM. The dhow glides along Tudor Creek, passing through peaceful waters until it reaches a secluded spot, perfect for a tranquil dining experience. The cruise lasts 2 hours and offers:
- A delicious Tamarind Seafood Platter featuring some of the freshest seafood Kenya has to offer.
- Prime Kenyan fillet steak for meat lovers.
- Tropical fruit salad to refresh your palate, followed by Kenyan coffee and Halwa for dessert.
The dhow returns to the jetty at 3:00 PM, giving you plenty of time to relax and enjoy the incredible views while savoring your meal.
The Dinner Cruise
The Dinner Cruise offers an enchanting evening on the water. The experience begins at 6:30 PM, with a welcoming “Dawa” cocktail as you board the dhow. From there, you’ll sail towards Fort Jesus, with the stunning Mombasa skyline and starlit skies creating the perfect backdrop for an unforgettable evening. Highlights include:
